Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker is known as the Father
of the Library Movement in Kerala .
The activities of the Kerala Grandhasala
Sanghom which was initiated by P. N.
Panicker ignited a popular cultural movement in Kerala at the end of which the
state acquired total literacy in the 1990s.
The
Grandhasala sangam which began humbly with 47 libraries in 1945, grew into a
network of more than 6,000 libraries spreading over the towns and villages of
Kerala. To give this activity a developmental format, he organized the Kerala
Association for Non Formal Education and Development (KANFED). Together, these
two Associations turned an activity into a movement which had a profound impact
on the education, culture and development of Kerala.

ಪುದುವಯಿಲ್ ನಾರಾಯಣ ಪಣಿಕ್ಕರ್ ಕೇರಳದ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಚಳವಳಿಯ ಪಿತಾಮಹ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.ಕೇರಳ ಗ್ರಂಥ ಶಾಲಾ ಸಂಘದ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಶ್ರೀಯುತರು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಗ್ರಂಥಶಾಲಾ ಸಂಘ 1947 ರಲ್ಲಿ 47 ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿತು.ಬಳಿಕ 6000 ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕೇರಳದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಬಂತು.ಅವರು ಕೇರಳ ಎಸೋಸಿಯೇಶನ್ ಫೋರ್ ನೋನ್ ಫೋರ್ಮಲ್ ಎಜುಕೇಷನ್ ಏನ್ಡ್ ಡೆವಲಪ್ ಮೆಂಟ್ (KANFED) ಎಂಬ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು. ಇವೆರಡು ಚಳವಳಿಗಳಿಂದ ಕೇರಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಶಿಕ್ಷಿತರ ಮತ್ತು ಓದುಗರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಗಣನೀಯವಾಗಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿತು.
